The first family, as I call them, took office Friday night and proceeded to win three games in three days, to qualify for their first trip to the New York Federation State Championship
"AA".
After taking office friday night, upon defeating Christ the King 63-54, The first family of St. Michaels Academy moved on to the semifinals of the CHSAA "AA" girls basketball state tournament to face Sacred Heart (Buffalo).
Sacred Heart shot the ball well early and only trailed St. Michael's by 11 points after the first quarter. St. Michaels extended their lead to a 43-17 half time led, behind the hot shooting of Junior Jennifer O'Neil and sophomore Allysia Rohlehr.
Sacred Heart went on 14-0, run to start the third quarter to close to within 43-31. St. Michaels came right back with 7-0 run to increase their lead up to 54-31.
St. Michael's pretty much cruised the rest of the way, resting their players as they won 68-53. St. Michaels was led by balanced attack of Jennifer O'Neil with 16 points, Allysia Rohlehr with 15 points, Julleah Sidney chipped in 10 points and Brittany Webb added 8 points. Sacred Heart was led by Kacey Bougard with 20 points and Natelie Coppala added 10 points.
Make that two wins in two days, next up was game three in three days, as St. Michaels moves on to face St. Peter's in a rematch.
The rematch, St. Peter's jumped out to an early 11-5 lead as the first family sat back in a zone. "Are you kidding me" as a well wisher from the stands yelled out. St. Michaels proceeded to go on a 24-0 run to pretty much put St. Peter's away before half time. St. Michaels closed out the half on a 33-4 run, to lead at the half 38-15.
With St. Michaels up 49-29 at the end of the third quarter, they removed their foot from the gas pedal with 1:09 remaining in the game up 63-38, as fans started calling for the ever improving sophomore 6'6, Lisa Blair to enter the game. St. Michaels closed out the game winning 66-43.
St. Michaels was once again led by junior Jennifer O'Neil with 22 points, sophomore Tiffany Jones with 13 points, while junior Julleah Sidney and sophomore Taylor Ford both chipped in 9 points each.
St. Peter's received contributions from Christine Kline and Jackie Passalacqua both with 9 points each and Leryncia Miller with 8 points.
Make that three wins, three games in three days and a date with destiny. Ain't she pretty.
Up next for the first family, a trip to Glens Falls for the New York Federation State "AA" Championship.
